My journey

Nearly 10 years on, in memory of John. I have signed up to take part in the London to Brighton cycle ride which take place on September 15th of this year. The Route starts at Clapham Common cycling along the A24, through the Sussex Villages such Turners Hill – Ardingly – Lindfield and towns that include Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill before cycling and Up before accenting up to Ditchlin Beacon on the South Downs before descending into Brighton finishing at the iconic Madeira Drive next to Brighton Pier and Beach. For me the route brings back fond memories of my years spent working at the South Lodge Hotel and the recently opened Spa and Mannings Heath golf club then part of Exclusive Group.

This ride also celebrates my journey with the then Nene Park Academy Slimming World Group, now know as the Oundle Road Group, my wife and I signed up to in May 2018. Previously I had been diagnosed as Type 2 diabetes, with the help of consultant Gary Albone and his group helped me find the motivation to rediscover my passion for cycling and taking part in the million steps challenge over 3 months, racking up 1.6 million steps helping me loose 3 stone in 6 months subsequently reversing the need for the condition to be managed with Metformin on a daily basis, the drug used to help the body to produce insulin and digest sugar. My Slimming world adventure is far from over, with the intense training needed to complete this event, that I will continue on my weight loss journey reaching and exceeding my eventual goal of 15 stone.
