Nene Park Trust

The Nene Park Trust is tasked, "to provide for the recreation of the public by the provision of a park for the benefit of the inhabitants of Peterborough and visitors with the object of improving the conditions of life for such persons." The Park combines a balance of commercial attractions and informal and formal recreational pursuits appropriate to the quiet enjoyment of the countryside.

River Nene

The River Nene is the tenth longest river in the United Kingdom. From its source at Arbury Hill to Northampton the river falls a total of 300 feet (91 m) in 17 miles (27 km).[1] For the remainder of its course, the Nene falls less than 200 feet (61 m).[2] It has a catchment area of 631 square miles (1,630 km2) and a mean flow of 328 cubic feet per second (9.3 m3/s).[3] The final 88 miles (142 km) from Northampton to the Wash is navigable.

River Welland

The River Welland, with its tributaries, form a river system with a catchment area of 609 square miles (1,580 km2). Within this area, 257 miles (414 km) of waterway are designated as "main river", and are therefore managed for flood control by the Environment Agency under the River Welland Catchment Flood Management Plan (CFMP).

The Fens

Fenland primarily lies around the coast of the Wash; it reaches into four ceremonial counties: Lincolnshire, Cambridgeshire, Norfolk and a small area of Suffolk, as well as the historic county of Huntingdonshire. In whole it occupies an area of nearly 1,500 sq mi (3,900 km2).

Nene Valley Railway

The line travels through a tunnel, built in 1845, to the country station at Yarwell on the Northamptonshire border. Use the train as a base to explore our stations at Wansford, Ferry Meadows with its country park, Orton Mere and its riverside walks and lakes, and our station in Peterborough where you can take time to explore the Cathedral, resting place of Katherine of Aragon and former resting place of Mary Queen of Scots, which dates back to 654 AD.

Life On The Holme Front.

‘Life on the Holme Front’ A 1940's weekend, An opportunity for the whole family to learn what village life was like during WWII. The whole village gets involved and we at Holmewood Hall open our doors for the weekend providing space for displays and a wartime tearoom. Holmewood Hall was used by the United States Office of Strategic Services (OSS) for packing airborne containers to be parachuted into occupied Europe
